How does MAD support Disabled Motorcyclists?
Through effective networks, we aim to connect people across Scotland to access information, which will enable them to participate in the freedom of mobility associated with motorcycling. Information about these networks (such as instructors, training centres, support groups and suppliers of specialist equipment) as they become available is available from our Getting Mobile network section.
You don’t need to be registered disabled to need help or be a member. And whether you were born with a disability or it’s been the result of an accident /illness – the MAD Scotland network aims to put you in touch with the right people who can help.
Although MAD Scotland does not directly provide grants or funding for adaptions to vehicles our members are encouraged to fundraise at a local level to support the aim of MAD – enabling freedom of mobility (see more under MAD in the Community). This may include supporting someone who as a result of a disability wishes to get back on the road and needs practical help or needs help with specialist equipment in and around the home.
Sometimes despite the will there isn’t a way for people to get back on the road and that’s where our social network for motorcyclists comes in. Or perhaps you are new to the world of motorcycling and you want some likeminded people to join up with for the occasional run. Again through our website you’ll be able to find out what’s happening around Scotland – from days out to weekend events and fundraising activity, which you can get involved in/support locally. Our members will keep each other up to date with what’s going on. Just because you can’t ride – doesn’t mean to say you have to miss out on the camaraderie that motorcyclists enjoy.
